Roads in town and most major roads in the countryside are asphalt, with narrow secondary roads usually composed of volcanic gravel. Driving is on the right-hand side, and road signs are international. The speed limit in most towns and villages is 50 km/h and in rural areas 80-90 km/h. Use of seat belts is required by law, and headlights must be turned on at all times day and night. Don't forget to take your valid US drivers license.
